# What's the difference between a moderator and a member?

When you create a public channel or group chat, you can also nominate **moderators**. Moderators have administrative functions in the group such as adding/removing members, archiving and updating the chat's profile photo.

**How do I make someone a moderator?**

1. Find the group chat public channel

2. Click the 3 dots and select **Group Info or Channel Info**

3. Find the member's name and click the dropdown. Click **Moderator.**

(If you want to remove someone's Moderator status, just repeat the steps above but select **Member**!)
