# What's the difference between a personal chat, group chat and public channel?

Inside our Chat, you'll see there are 3 different types of chats you can create - choose the one that best suits your needs!

**Personal Chat**  
A private 1:1 chat between you and one other member.

**Group Chat**  
Private group chats are only visible to group members. Others can only find and join if they are invited by a group member. Best for friends, Study Groups or ‘invite only’ Interest Groups.

**Public Channel**  
Public, searchable and visible to all members. Anyone who finds your channel can join. Use the search to check if a similar channel already exists before creating a new one.
