# Why is Hey Lady! only for women only? Why can't men join?

_Hey Lady!_ offers a safe and supportive space to practise English for anyone identifying as a woman.

Speaking in a second language is challenging - for anyone. There can be all sorts of negative emotions at play: fear, anxiety, doubt, frustration, awkwardness, to name just a few.

Women-only spaces are important in providing access and opportunity for women around the world, across cultures, in support of women’s education and gender equality. At _Hey Lady!_, we work hard to reduce barriers as much as possible so that our members are not only able to participate, but thrive as they interact with others in their non-native language.‍

It's no surprise that many of the women in our community have been introduced to us by a supportive man in their lives - a loving husband, kind father, sweet son or supportive boss - who want to see them succeed.
